A Japanese delegation paid a visit to Wuxi's Turtle Head Isle in Jiangsu on March 25 and planted some cherry trees as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

A total of 50 overseas students from Japan and Wuxi Jiangnan University took part in the friendly cultural exchange activity. They wore kimonos, a kind of Japanese traditional dress, and hung wooden boards adorned with "Sino-Japanese friendship" on tree branches.

Since the 1980s, some Japanese people and non-governmental organizations have planted cherry trees at Turtle Head Isle which has more than 30,000 cherry blossoms at present, making it a well-known scenic spot in China for people to enjoy the beautiful flowers.

Many visitors also watched an ancient Chinese musical performance by the Japanese delegation, and expressed their wishes to enjoy cherry blossoms in Japan in the future.

"I firmly believe that the friendship between Chinese and Japanese people will drive peace and cooperation between two countries," said Shibata Yutaka, president of the cherry plantation civil society. "I will continue planting cherry trees with greatest sincerity."

China and Japan are close neighbors and have had relations with each other for more than 2,000 years.
