A group of 12 students got up close and personal with the world of nocturnal insects at Tianfu Wetlands Park in Huaqiao town, Kunshan city, on June 21.

Students received a brief lesson on the kinds of habitats preferred by certain insects to help them identify insects and find a wide range of them in Baicao Garden.

A tutor stopped students on the way to the garden when he spotted a small male longhorn beetle. The tutor expounded the mating ritual and process as the male beetle walked away from a female after failing to impress.

During a lengthy period of exploration, a wide range of insects were observed and documented by the students, who received guidance and explanations of the insects' anatomy and behaviors from tutors.

Tianfu Wetlands Park was designated as the first national wetland park in Kunshan city in 2014. It has areas dedicated to agricultural sight-seeing agriculture, leisure and holiday resorts, science exhibitions and farming.
