There are 328 software companies and 1,552 software products in Qingdao. The income from software operations reached 48.8 billion yuan ($7.92 billion) in 2012, an increase of 52 percent compared to the same period last year. It earnestly implements testing zones for the "combination of informatization and industrialization." The city has developed 15 demonstration companies and 30 demonstration projects. It vigorously promotes informatization solutions regarding research and design, production control, resource management and marketing.

The Internet industry is just developing. It draws from the 2011-2015 Scheme on Application and Industry Development of the Internet of Things of Qingdao City and promotes the construction of 10 demonstration items. The city promotes establishment of a "wireless city." It also further expands the application scope of wireless technology and the strength of wireless security. Qingdao was selected as one of the "Top 10 Informatization Cities in China." It became one of the 12 demonstration cities for "the integration of telecommunication networks, cable TV networks and the Internet" in China.

New energy resources

Currently, there are five companies specializing in producing solar photovoltaic devices in Qingdao. Qingdao GIGA Solar New Energy Co, with an investment of 2.6 billion yuan, specializes in producing single crystal silicon, polysilicon, film solar cells and components. The polycrystalline silicon solar components produced by Abo New Energy Co, with a total investment of 150 million yuan, have been put into trial operation.

CuInxGa (1-x) Se2 (CIGS) film solar batteries produced by NESI Solar Co, with a total investment of 400 million yuan, have been produced in small quantities. An industry has been established focusing on on-grid wind power generation apparatus in the city. The 1.5- and 3.0-megawatt wind power generation apparatus of China Creative Wind Energy Co has comprehensive intellectual property rights. The sales income in 2010 reached nearly 1.9 billion yuan. The construction of a 5.0-megawatt unit will be completed in 2011.

Shandong Datang Corporation is discussing a merger with China Creative Wind Energy Co. The establishment of a wind power generation apparatus like a variable-pitch control system, yaw system, lappet and tower has been established. Sales income reached nearly 1 billion yuan in 2010. Datang Corporation and Huaneng Group are establishing wind power generation plants in Jiaonan, Huangdao, Pingdu and Jimo with a total investment of 2.5 billion yuan.

New materials

Qingdao has strong cooperation and creation competitiveness. It has established a large number of leading companies with new high-molecular materials, new building materials and new textile materials. It also establishes some important products regarding electronic materials, metallic materials and inorganic non-metallic materials.

The marine materials characterize marine resources widely applied in textile, medicine and food sectors.

There are 203 enlisted manufacturers in the new materials field in Qingdao, 56 of whom have sales income over 100 million yuan. A batch of new materials is ready for industrialization. There are 22 new materials with sales income over 100 million yuan, including electronic information material, lithium battery material, polymer material, marine insulation material, seaweed fiber and metallic glass matrix composites. A large number of competitive companies with strong techniques and markets will be established after it is completed. Qingdao will play a supporting role in the development of new materials, establishing a growth pole for new materials.

Biomedicine

Currently there are more than 200 companies specializing in new vaccines, biotech drugs, new chemical medicine, modern Chinese medicine and biochemical engineering.

There are 57 companies in the entire industry in 2010 with a total industrial output of 7.5 billion yuan, an increase of 14.8 percent year-on-year. The total industrial output of three leading companies, Huanghai Pharmacy, Growful Pharmacy and Huaren Pharmaceutical, are 800 million yuan, 600 million yuan and 300 million yuan, respectively, accounting for 23 percent of total industry output in the city.

The city has one national technical center – Bright Moon Seaweed Group – four provincial-level technical centers – Shuangdie, Huanghai, Huaren and Growful – and three municipal-level technical centers in the medicine industry.

It also possesses one "Famous Trademark of China," one "China Top Brand," three "Famous Trademarks in Shandong," six "Shandong Top Brands," 11 "Qingdao Top Brands," and a Scientific Research Institute for Marine and Medicine in China.

Environmental protection and energy conservation

Qingdao enjoys technical and industrial strengths in highly–efficient, low-energy, environmental protection equipment. It also boasts advanced marine insulation and seawater desalination techniques and devices as well as circular resource utilization.

For highly-efficient and energy-conserving products, Sanli Group takes a leading position in China.

Also, Ruijing Photoelectricity Co has kicked off with production capacity of LED lamps of 200,000 Set/a.

Regarding environmental protection, environment monitoring devices produced by Qingdao Laoshan Institute of Applied Technology, Laoshan Electronic Device Factory and Qingdao Jiaming Measurement and Control Technology Co have taken a leading position in China.

Regarding marine insulation and seawater desalination techniques and devices, Sunrui Insulation and Antifouling Co, Qingdao Headway Technology Co and Huaxuan Environmental Protection Technique Co have advanced technology.

Regarding the circular utilization of resources, New World Group established the first national-level industrial park in China engaged in the treatment of worn-out automobiles, furniture, wasted mineral oil, hazardous medicine wastes and polluted soil.
