The biggest upgrade construction since 2006 kicked off on the coastal area of Qingdao. The city's Laoshan district will spend 4.5 million yuan ($800,000) to reshape the Shilaoren Beach bathing spot, according to Qingdao Morning News.

Laosha district will build new and transform old facilities in Shilaoren Beach. Eight moveable PVC retail sheds will be installed at the entrance, displacing old kiosks, of the beach area. A 700-meter wooden trestle will be laid to guide tourists to appreciate scenery at Shilaoren Beach.

An LED screen will also be set up to provide information concerning weather forecasts, time, tide status, tips and notices.

“Two more public toilets and 131 guidance signs will be equipped in Shilaoren Beach for tourists,” said Liu Peng, director of the Shilaoren Beach bathing spot.

All the new facilities are scheduled to serve tourists in July. The beach will reserve an area for tourists to pitch tents and sun umbrellas, covering nearly 3,000 square meters.

The beach will be open to tourists from May 1, two months ahead of schedule. Before May 1, an official office area will be changed into a parking lot, helping ease parking for 200 buses. Some facilities such as toilets and retail sheds will be ready for service.

As a famous local public bathing spot thanks to its stunning scenery and a well-known folk tale between a father and daughter, Shilaoren Beach will welcome tourists with a new look.
