Qingdao Businesses Set Sail for Southeast Asia

Qingdao, the coastal city in East China's Shandong province and a key harbor on the Maritime Silk Road, has taken great advantage of investing in the global market thanks to the national Belt and Road Initiative.

In Southeast Asia, Qingdao-based enterprises saw a great opportunity. With the regions low labor costs and trade advantages, Qingdao businesses began expanding into Southeast Asia about 10 years ago. The result has been that these companies have not only experienced expansion and profit growth, but also created many job opportunities as well as contributing to the regional economy.

Founded in 2007, Prachin Buri, Thailand, the Haier Thailand Electrical Industrial Company is an important production base for the global consumer electronics manufacturer.

Haier also implemented its trinity localization strategy, implementing three key areas, localized R&D, manufacturing and marketing. >>>

Qingdao-based producer of high-performance road and aircraft tires, Sentury Tire, finished construction of its second production plant in Rayong, Thailand in August, 2015.

Sentury Tire invested 1.2 billion yuan ($182 million) in the project, including the purchase of the world's most advanced automatic tire production equipment. >>>

The Cambodia arm of the Qingdao Baoli Textiles, Embroidery & Drawnwork Co, located in Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, was established in Dec, 2013 with a total investment of $2.6 million.

The company handles drawn thread work, clothes and household upholstery products that are mainly exported to China, Japan, Europe and U.S. >>>

Changhui Pipe Company's Cambodia branch, located in the biggest special economic zone in Cambodia, Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, was built in June, 2013 and covers an area of 10,000 square meters.

The products of Changhui Pipe are exported to 15 countries in Europe and America, with the total volume of imports and exports in 2014 reaching 8,000 tons. As of November 2015, the volume exceeded 9,200 tons, up 15 percent compared with the previous year. >>>

Located in Biên Hòa, Dong Nai province, AQUA Vietnam Electrical Appliance Company (AEV) is one of Haier's production bases in Southeast Asia, featuring marketing, R&D and manufacturing of household appliances. >>>

As the largest candle maker in Asia, Kingking Group settled in Vietnam in Oct 2006. With a total investment of $18.6 million, it is a high-tech enterprise featuring R&D, design, manufacture and sales. >>>

Forklift truck and electrical motor design company, D&D Group, is reaping the benefits of relocating to Vietnam’s Export Processing Zone in Linh Trung, Tay Ninh province. >>>

In 2011, Sailun Tire Co set up a branch office in Vietnam with a total investment of $95 million.

According to Wang Chongju, the deputy general manager of Sailun's Vietnam branch, the factory is the biggest manufacturing enterprise in Vietnam at present. With its half-steel tires starting production and making profits, Sailun is planning to start its second phrase project. >>>
