An international Master Plan Examination and Appraisal Meeting was held in Shunde in Qingyuan city of the Guangdong province from Nov 30 to Dec 1. Experts from Tongji University, Beijing Jiaotong University, South China Agricultural University and Shenzhen Urban Institute attended the meeting and voted two winning programs from the four competing"unions".

The general planning area is 36 square kilometers and plans to become the new regional cooperative demonstration area in Guangdong province. The goal of this meeting was to make a prospective analysis and survey, including its developing scale, operational model, functional division, spatial pattern, transportation system, flood defense system and landscape system.

The competition started on Sept 22 of this year. Four consortiums from design institutes in the US, France, Germany and Hong Kong were selected. Four pieces were submitted to the Master Plan Examination and Appraisal Meeting on November 30.

By the experts' discussion and registered ballot, two winning consortiums were selected on December 1. They were, OBERMEYER Engineering Consulting Co. Ltd (Beijing) with Zhuhai designing institute, and France AAUPC construction design firms (Leading unit) with Foshan Urban Construction Design Institute.

Experts generally believed that the four designing plans are creative and clear in analyzing and solving problems. Meanwhile, they made active response to flood protection and environment protection. The superintendent of the Shunde industry area said that the best general designing plan will be based on one winning plan while drawing advantages from the other plans. It will be made in the next two months.
