The restoration project of the Ancestral Hall of Shen’s Family, a cultural relic protection site in Jiangqiao town of Shanghai’s Jiading district, recently came to an end after an inspection conducted by experts and officials of local cultural relic management departments.
The hall was built in 1916 as a vacation villa of the family. The hall combined advanced concrete technology and local traditional architectural styles. It is the only place that combines both Western and Eastern brick-concrete structures in Jiading district.

The project tried to keep its old look during the restoration, said a construction worker. Apart from the wooden doors and windows, which look newly-installed, the project left old bullet holes and revolutionary slogans on the walls, giving the hall a historical appearance.
Relative departments will renew the surrounding environment of the hall in the next stage. After the whole project completes, the hall will open to the public as a showroom displaying furniture from late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in the Jiangnan area (regions south of the Yangtze River).
