Four sites in Jiading district, Shanghai, are on the fifth list of Shanghai Excellent Historical Architecture that was released on June 10, China's first Culture and Nature Heritage Day.
The sites are Huilongtan Park, the Catholic Church, Jiading Villa Garden Hotel, and Nanxiang Twin Pagodas.
Here we take a look at what it is that makes these buildings and sites worth the honor.
Huilongtan Park

Huilongtan Park, covering a total of 4.85 hectares, is a classic garden with a history of more than 500 years. It consists of two parts, a southern natural landscape with lakes and mountains and a northern area highlighting cultural relics and ancient architecture. It used to be part of Jiading Confucius Temple.

Catholic Church

Situated on about 1,500 square meters, the Catholic Church was first built in 1864 during the reign of Emperor Tongzhi (1856-1875) in the Qing Dynasty, and was then rebuilt in 1932 and renovated in 1984, 1991, and 2005. The church, with wood and brick structure, has two stories. There are three arched doors at the entrance of the church.
