An exhibition exploring Jiuduansha Wetland has been launched at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum in the city's Lujiazui area on Feb 10.

The exhibition will run until Feb 19 and aims to popularize general understanding about wetland areas as well as educating visitors about the importance of preservation.

The exhibition is spread across six exhibition areas and covers Jiuduansha's unique landforms, abundant plants, birds, and aquatic species. Museum curators hope the exhibition offers visitors a better understanding of the wetland through videos, plant specimens, and a range of detailed models. Additionally, the latest visual reality (VR) technology is used to offer visitors a truly immersive experience.

The exhibition is part of the "Our Jiuduansha" series, which aims to increase the exposure of Jiuduansha and call for more people to pay attention to wetland protection.

Jiuduansha Wetlands spans roughly 420 square kilometers and is a collection of four intertidal wetland shoals at the mouth of the Yangtze River. The area is of great ecological value and is the habitat of 191 species of plants, 403 species of insects, 135 species of fishes, and 206 species of birds including three first class national protected animals. These birds are the oriental white stork, the hooded crane and the relict gull.

The Jiuduansha Wetland Nature Reserve was established in March 2000 and later listed as a national nature reserve in 2005.
