Located on the northern border of Sheshan town and bordering on Zhaoxiang town, it is the northernmost hillock in the area of the nine peaks. Its former name is Ganshan Mountain. It is 40.4 meters?above sea level and covers about 13.3?hectares?of land.

The soil in the mountain is suitable for growing bamboos, so it is also called Bamboo Mountain. As it is to the north of Ganshan Mountain (Tianma Mountain), it is commonly called Beigan Mountain (literally "North of Gan Mountain"). In Yuan Dynasty (AD 1271~1368), Yu Jin lived here and referred to himself as Ke Ren Shan Ren, so the mountain is also called Keshan Mountain.

It is said that iron was produced in Beigan Mountain. In the 1950s~1960s, coniferous and broad-leaved trees and bamboos were planted and now they have become forests.

Due to the quiet environment, numerous egrets inhabit in the woods, becoming a major attraction of the mountain. In the mountain, there are many varieties of birds. It is one of the areas with the densest bird population in Shanghai.
