The old city of Pingyao, Shanxi province has received two tourism awards – "2014 Global 100 low-cost tourism destination" and for "China's most desirable places" -- the Pingyao county tourism bureau reported on Nov 8.

The first of the above-mentioned awards is determined by global data from the trivago hotel search engine, which gathers tourist evaluations from more than 200 hotel reservation websites as well as an overall ranking of average hotel room prices for a year. Pingyao ranks among the Top 10 on the Global 100 tourism destination list.

The second of the two is sponsored by the China Tourism TV Association and based on international standards via online promotions, media studies, spot assessments and online comments. It has 140 scenic spots taking part. The old city of Pingyao ranks among China’s 20 most desirable places.
