The Shanxi Medical Association Breast Surgery Specialized Committee was established in Taiyuan on Nov 24.
Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor among women, especially among young women and in cities in China.
Shanxi has a good track record of research and development in breast surgery with a number of provincial-level top hospitals and municipal hospitals having established breast cancer departments. However, there is still a gap between advanced provinces and underdeveloped provinces in breast surgery, scientific research and professional training.
The newly founded committee will help promote communication and collaboration with advanced provinces in breast surgery and organize various academic meetings to improve diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in Shanxi province.
Also, the committee will popularize prevention and self-examination of breast cancer among the residents in the province.
