I. Talents in need:

According to different academic achievements and levels, there are six types of high-level talents:

i. Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences; academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

ii. Chief expert of national key disciplines and key laboratories; specially-appointed and chair professors of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program; member of the national 863 and 973 programs’ expert team; chief scientist of the national 863 and 973 programs; heads of the National Natural Science Foundation’s innovation research group; National Renowned Teachers; vice-director and director of national societies, with age not above 50

iii. Winner of the National Outstanding Youth Foundation; chief expert of the Ministry of Education’s key labs; head of the Ministry of Education’s innovation teams; candidate of Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; candidate of Shanxi’s Hundred Talents Program; candidate of the Shanxi Scholar Program; candidate of program for scholar in neighbor provinces, with age not above 50

iv. Professor of “985 Project” universities; winner of the national 100 excellent doctoral dissertations; candidate of the National Special Support Program for High-Level Personnel; PhD graduate with outstanding achievements at renowned foreign universities, with age not above 45

v. Associate professor with a PhD at “985 Project” universities; winner of the National Outstanding Youth Foundation; candidate of the national 100 excellent doctoral dissertations; candidate of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents, with age not above 45

vi. Excellent PhD graduates below 40-years-old who meet the following requirements:

1. Close relation between bachelor’s and master’s programs;

2. Have published advanced academic paper as the first author with strong scientific research abilities;

3. Foreign language skills should meet one of the following requirements: score of 426 or above in CET-6; have TEM8 certificate; pass PETS-5; or have experience studying in a foreign country for more than a year.

II. Benefits

The university subsidizes scientific research to help introduce high-level talents

i. Science and engineering: 5 million yuan ($816 million); art and literature: 2 million yuan ($327 million)

ii. Science and engineering: 3 million yuan; art and literature: 1 million yuan

iii. Science and engineering: 2 million yuan; art and literature: 600,000 yuan

iv. Science and engineering: 500,000 yuan; art and literature: 200,000 yuan

v. Science and engineering: 250,000 yuan; art and literature: 150,000 yuan

Note: 1. Dissertation has to be published during the PhD program, with candidate as the first author. 2. Science and engineering dissertation collected by SCI should be on the JCR released by the Chinese Academy of Sciences every year. 3. Art and literature dissertation will be graded in accordance with the evaluation basis proposed by the social sciences department of Shanxi University. 4. Science and engineering dissertation collected by EI (Ei Engineering Village) and ISTP (Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings) will enable candidate to get 60,000-150,000 yuan in scientific research subsidy.

IV. Required materials

Applicants should provide the following documents at the interview:

1. Resume (including basic personal information, study and work experience, and CET-6 score)

2. Scientific research achievements, including published and printed dissertation or articles, finished or ongoing scientific project(s), scientific research award(s), and authorized patent certificate(s)

3. Returned overseas students should offer master copies of foreign education degree certificate issued by the Ministry of Education’s Service Center

V. Interview application 1. Procedure

2. Interview consists of lecture and professional academic report. Lecture content is based on the test given by the university, and the test will last approximately 20 minutes. The academic report needs to be presented with a Powerpoint slideshow of around 10 minutes before a five-minute Q&A session.
