A biomedicine sciences forum was held in Shanxi University on March 10, where experts from home and abroad gathered to discuss the major challenges in their fields.

Four overseas scholars, Dr. Ye Jinpei, Dr. Meng Qinglai, Dr. Zhao Zhonghua, Dr. Xu Chenggang, were invited to give speeches at the forum and exchange ideas with teachers and students from the campus's College of Life Science on the direction of research and the future development of biomedicine sciences.

During the forum, Dr. Ye Jinpei, a steam cell and embryo scientist who is a senior researcher at the University of Edinburgh, UK and a visiting senior researcher at the Roslyn Institute, gave a speech on the topic of "Derivation and applications of the most advanced clinical grade human embryonic stem cells".

Dr. Meng Qinglai, an assistant research fellow at Case Western Reserve University whose main area of study is the immunopathogenesis of HIV infection, HCV infection and HIV/TB co-infection, gave a speech on the topic of "During chronic HCV infection host genetics may affect liver damage and outcome of IFNa based therapy by regulating activity of NK cells to kill HCV infected hepatocytes".

Dr. Zhao Zhonghua, a senior research fellow of Nanyang Technological University, gave a speech on the topic of "The Mechanism of GRK2 in Hedgehog Signalling Pathway".

Dr. Xu Chenggang, a research fellow at Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology of Chinese Academy of Science, who researches the functional genomics and molecular genetics of cellulose microbes, gave a speech on the topic of the "Molecular mechanism of cellulose degradation by bacteria—Lessons from Clostridial cellulosome".
