Run Run Shaw and Wudang

Sir Run Run Shaw, or Shao Yifu, a media mogul and philanthropist who passed away at his home in Hong Kong at the age of 107 on Jan 7, forged a bond with Wudang Mountains, according to wudangshan.gov.cn, the official website of the tourist attraction.

In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle following a serious illness, Shaw practiced qigong, an ancient Chinese healthcare system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.

In 1998, he studied a special breathing exercise with Li Chengyu, a female Taoist priest from Wudang Mountains who was over 100 years old. Over the course of his life, Shaw donated more than HK$ 10 billion ($ 1.29 billion) to support education and healthcare on the Chinese mainland.

In 1998, following a HK$ 300,000 ($38,700) donation from Shaw, the authorities launched the construction of the Yifu Building in the No 2 Middle School of Danjiangkou city.
