A Chinese film week themed "Beautiful Yunnan" opened on the evening of August 28 at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Li Qian, deputy minister of the Yunnan Party Publicity Ministry, inaugurated the event and made the opening speech. Audiences would have a chance to see the diverse ethnic culture and breathtaking landscapes in Yunnan.

Suo Dao Yi Sheng ("The Doctor of Ropeway"), the first film screened, was adapted from the true story of Deng Qiandui, a country doctor in a small village in Yunnan. He persisted in curing illnesses and saving patients for 28 years, regardless of the danger of traveling by rope-line over the turbulent Nujiang River.

Huayao Bride and When Nuoma Was 17 are two classic films from Honghe (an autonomous prefecture in Yunnan where Hani and Yi ethnic groups live). Cha Ma Gu Dao ("Ancient Tea-Horse Road"), a documentary jointly shot by China and France, introduces the unique tea culture of Southwest China to viewers.

Although the films focus on the life of Yunnan, the humanity displayed is universal. Audiences can learn more about the past, the present and the future of Yunnan through the films.
