Peking Opera actors perform at one of the Olympic Cultural Festival shows.

The five-year-old Olympic Cultural Festival had its last program this year before the Opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games next year. Under the slogan of "I participate, I contribute, and I enjoy", organizers reach out to make the Olympics accessible to the public, especially the young, through various forms of entertainment. To showcase the theme, organizers also kicked off the planetary election campaign for the Beijing Olympics' torchbearers on the opening day of the festival.

Passengers come out of the international arrival gate at Beijing's Capital Airport.

Each day, the airport handles more than 100,000 domestic and 30,000 international passengers. Terminal 3, to be completed in two months' time, will more than double the airport's annual passenger capacity from 27 million to 60 million by 2008. A total of 2.65 million people from China and abroad are expected to visit Beijing during the Olympics.
