Spare not illegal food producers

Comment on "China to crack down on illegal food producers" (China Daily website, Aug 23)

I hope the Chinese government is serious about cracking down on illegal food producers. As a regular visitor to China, I am impressed by the many changes that have taken place in recent years to improve China's image and Chinese people's lives.

But the negative reports that are emerging one after another threaten to offset all the efforts made for improvement. Besides, it takes a much longer time and a lot more effort to repair a damaged reputation. No matter who the wrongdoers are and how they are connected, the authorities must punish them severely to protect people's health.
