No one could miss the message that China is committed to peace and communication when Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi gave an in-depth deliberation on China's foreign policy on Tuesday on the sidelines of the ongoing annual meetings of the country's top legislature and political advisory body.

China's long-term commitment to peaceful development has won the country many friends and been accepted by countries committed to shaping a new and fairer world order.

As a nation boasting a long tradition of friendship with Asian countries, China is devoted to nurturing friendly relations with all its neighbors. It has stood firm on its commitment to deepening mutual trust and expanding cooperation with them, despite some thorny issues such as conflicting territorial claims in the South China Sea.

The win-win cooperation that is being forged between China and its neighbors has much greater significance than any differences and problems that remain to be overcome.

China's peace-loving nature dictates that the country always supports peaceful options whenever a crisis crops up to threaten regional or world peace and development.

As long as there is any possibility of diplomatic mediation, China is unrelenting in its efforts to promote dialogue and political solutions to conflicts and crises, such as those concerning Syria and Iran.

In recent years, there have been growing concerns and even suspicions about the role China will assume on the world stage. Much of these unfavorable sentiments toward China have stemmed from misinterpretation and misunderstanding.

Given the complicated world and regional trends today, China understands the importance of meaningful communication with other countries and takes every opportunity to explain to the outside world how it perceives and handles state-to-state relations.

To this end Yang elaborated openly and at length on China's international relations and its stance on almost all its major foreign policy issues.

Given the prevalence of misgivings concerning China's rise, there is a need for meaningful communication between all countries to advance the common pursuit of peace and development.
