New traffic law justified

After the implementation of the new strict traffic rules, many drivers fear losing their driving points for "incidental mistakes" and eventually suspend their driving license. This has prompted some "business-minded" people to sell their personal points to traffic rule violators and make huge profits. Immediate steps should be taken to stop such illegal business, says an article on xinhuanet.com. Excerpts:

The implementation of a traffic law, aimed at regulating driving, has reduced accidents by compelling most of the drivers to obey traffic rules.

Traffic rule violators can find many reasons to defend the actions for which they lose their driving points and could even suspend their driving license. But a person violating traffic rules should be prepared to receive punishment and see the new law as a warning to drive cautiously.

The reason why the new law has evoked a strong reaction from some quarters is that unscrupulous people are exploiting drivers who take chances and thus often break rules. The new law may be very strict, but it is only intended to make drivers follow safety rules. If a driver is not concerned about his/her or others' safety, it is necessary to make him/her realize his/her mistake and, if need be, cancel his/her driving license.

People buying and selling driving points should realize that they are jeopardizing not only other people's lives, but also their own. Therefore, erring drivers should never approach "touts" to replenish their driving points.

On one hand, the new traffic law needs to be strictly implemented to help educate and punish traffic rule violators. On the other, relevant traffic regulation must be strengthened to help regulate drivers and traffic both.
