In France we are often registered with a university before we finish high school, as they have admission committees looking at your school record and comments by the teachers.
If you have good results and good comments during your whole time at high school, you should do well in university. This system aims to relieve some of the pressure and also to see the consistency of the students. It means that you have to work hard for 3 years if you want to get into a good university, you don't have to just cram for one exam.
