I think girls get better grades because more boys don't try or don't care. I don't think that good grades bring high status here, but it is equal for boys and girls. I think that in the higher performance schools, everyone cares about getting good grades and boys as well as girls are more motivated there. I think that if you want boys to do better, you would have to find something that interests or motivates them.
