How are laowais treated in China?

Chinese are known for their friendliness and warmth - sometimes up to a point that Westerners would regard them as silly or over-done - but this is what they are!

At first, they will be curious about you, but there is no harm in curiosity. Then when you get to know them, you will be overwhelmed by their hospitality. They also have a strong sense of community (rather than individualism as in the West) hence people like each other generally.
