2. The Mogao Grottoes
The Mogao Grottoes (also known as Thousand Buddha Cave) is seen from a distance in Dunhuang county of Guansu province. There are 492 caves housing 2,415 sculptures which were built during the 4th century. Over 45,000 square meters of murals were painted at the site, which spans 1,600 meters from north to south. It was listed as a cultural heritage site by UNESCO in 1987.
