The stone lion on the Lugouqiao Bridge in southwestern suburb of Beijing. The "July 7 Incident" , or "the Lugouqiao Incident", which marked the beginning of the 8-year war against Japanese invasion (1937-45), started here on July 7, 1937. In the incident Japanese invading troops launched an assault on Chinese army. The Lugouqiao Bridge, over Yongding River, has long been a major icon of the capital, not only for its natural beauty but also its significance in the country's history. [www.ming7.cn]
