A contract to build World Expo Shanghai Corporate Pavilion signed

Shanghai Guosheng Group signed an exhibition contract with the Shanghai World Expo Co-ordination Bureau on Friday to build the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion for the World Expo 2010.

The pavilion, dubbed the "dream cube," is backed by the best design, creative and technological professionals from both home and abroad, said Shi Derong, chairman of Shanghai Guosheng Group.

"The pavilion, covering an area of 4,000 square meters, will show the world's most sophisticated energy-conservation and environmental protection technology," said Shi.

It will also showcase creative works from ordinary people from Shanghaiand the rest of the world on themes related to science, engineering humanity, arts and human feelings, he added.

An official from the Shanghai World Expo Co-ordination Bureau said the pavilion, located at the expo's corporate pavilion area, will make full use of new technologies and materials in the presentation of anew citylife.

Guosheng didn't engage a production firm or an advertisement firm to develop the pavilion design and exhibition content from the beginning.

Rather, work on the pavilion started in May 2008 with a search of first-class architects, interactive media designers, cultural planners, writers, film and visual artists, environmental and innovative professionals and Shanghai entrepreneurs to obtain bright and new ideas from the world, Shi said.

The architectural design of the pavilion is inspired by the concept of "maintaining harmony between nature and man," an idea advocated by traditional Chinese Taoism and a romantic philosophical story "In Dream with the Butterflies."

The pavilion is divided into four areas: a queuing area, a transition area, the road to Shanghaiand the journey to Shanghai's future.

It features a 2200 square meters solar heat-collecting tube screen on the roof to collect solar energy to produce hot water up to 95 centigrade degrees.

Its ultra-low temperature power generation can produce electricity of 200 kilowatts which can be used for the pavilion.
