Cart dance on intangible cultural heritage list

The Sichuan provincial government has announced its recent list of intangible cultural heritage.

Included on the list is the cart dance which has existed in the Wenjiang District of Chengdu, Pixian county and Deyang city in Sichuan for more than one century.

The dance depicts a grandpa driving his grandson to a marketplace on a cart. On the way, the grandpa teases the grandson who tries to catch a butterfly along the fields.

But with the change of time, the popular dance showing the duo's love for the bucolic scenery and life, almost became extinct. In recent years, folk artists in Wenjiang have revived this time-honored art form.
