Who are the largest metropolises in the next 10 years? The list may no longer be confined to the traditional metropolises such as New York, Paris and London. Medium-sized cities like Chengdu are rising abruptly as new forces.

According to Forbes’ reports on Oct 8, 2010, the four Chinese cities Chengdu, Chongqing, Suzhou and Nanjing, would be listed among the fastest growing cities in the next decade. Chengdu and Chongqing would be the top two in terms of growth rate.

Though the city will not experience ups and downs for a short time, it will be long enough for the city to rise up in a span of 10 years, according to Forbes.

The list of future metropolises excluded old global centers such as New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo, or the recently emerged cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore. Even the super-large populated city of Mumbai lost trace too.

The ranking list mainly focused on the emerging cities in the next 10 years. Chinese inland cities Chongqing and Chengdu stepped into the limelight.

Forbes claimed that the inland cities served as sound replacers of coastline cities like Shanghai, Hong Kong and Shenzhen. China’s bold city diversity strategy has extended rich soil for the boom of inland cities. Take Chengdu as an example, Sichuan’s fast development of aviation, railway and highway services are well linked with inland cities, coastal areas and the outside world.
