As one of the Zhangzhou Three Treasures, Zhangzhou Baobao inkpad is a treasure favored by painters and calligraphers home and abroad, and is called the fifth treasure in addition to the Four Treasures of the Study. Babao Inkpad is made of the following materials: pearl, agate, coral, musk, borneol, gold foil, amber, and monkey. It was invented in the 12th year of Qing emperor Kangxi (1654-1722) by Wei Chang’an, the founder of the inkpad, more than 300 years ago. It was used by imperial family in Qiang Qianlong period. Zhangzhou Babao Inkpad Co is still producing the precious inkpad now.
