A brief introduction of four cities in the Yellow River Golden Triangle

The Plan on Cooperatively Developing the Shanxi-Shaanxi-Henan Yellow River Golden Triangle was approved by the State Council on March 31, ushering in a period of rapid development for Sanmenxia.

The golden triangle area consists of the adjoining parts of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan provinces on both sides of the Yellow River, namely the cities of Yuncheng, Linfen, Weinan and Sanmenxia. It covers an area of 57,800 square kilometers.

Sanmenxia

Sanmenxia Located in the west of Central China’s Henan province, the city of Sanmenxia is hailed as the “city of swans.”

There are three counties, two county-level cities and one district included in Sanmenxia municipality with an area totaling 10,496 square kilometers and a population of 2.27 million.

Sanmenxia is recognized as one of the origins of Chinese civilization due to its time-honored historical culture. It has a batch of historical and cultural sites protected at the national level, including the Yangshao site, Miaodigou site and Guo State Cemetery.

The city has a strong ecological environment and tourism resources.

In addition, Sanmenxia is known for its rich mineral resources, 66 of them were discovered and more than half of them have been exploited. The top three advantageous minerals of Sanmenxia are described by their respective color, namely yellow gold, white aluminum and black.

Sanmenxia’s gold reserves and output rank second in Henan province. Reserves for 15 other kinds of minerals, such as zinc and antimony, rank first in the province.

Yuncheng

Yuncheng, which was formerly called Hedong, is located among Linfen of Shanxi province, Weinan of Shannxi province, and Sanmenxia in Henan province.

Yuncheng includes one district, two county-level cities, 10 counties, 133 townships and 3,338 administrative villages. It has a population of 5.19 million.

The city is rich in tourism resources, with more than 1,600 tourism spots, 22 of which are historical and cultural sites protected at the national level.

It is a traditional agricultural area well-known for 10 kinds of agricultural products, including wheat, cotton and apples. Some of its products are now sold in international markets.

Linfen

Linfen covers an area of 20,275 square kilometers in southwest Shanxi province. Linfen includes a district, two county-level cities, 14 counties and two economic development zones. It has a population of 4.12 million.

A long history has bestowed the city with abundant historical and cultural attractions. There are 2,595 historical and cultural sites protected at different levels, 28 at the national level.

Linfen is also a place of advantageous agriculture and abundant products. It is one of the major cotton and wheat production bases in Shanxi.

In addition, Linfen has rich mineral resources, 38 of them were discovered; among them, the coal area scans 15,400 square kilometers of a reserve totals 96 billion tons. And the others minerals such as iron ore, marble and gypsum ore also have notable reserve volumes.

Weinan

The city of Weinan is located in east Shaanxi province. It covers a total area of 13,000 square kilometers and includes one district, two county-level cities, eight counties, one national high-tech area, a provincial-level economic and technological development zone, a modern industrial comprehensive development zone and the Huanshan Mountain scenic area. It has a population of 5.56 million.

Weinan has always been an advantageous agricultural area in Northwest China. It is also a production base for apples, peppers, dates, pears and persimmons.

Abundant mineral resources have been discovered in the city, such as coal, molybdenum and gold.

Huashan Mountain, one of the most well-known mountains in China, stands in Weinan and makes the city a popular destination for both Chinese and foreign tourists.
