Pudong seeks increased cooperation with Singapore

Secretary of Pudong district's CPC committee, Shen Xiaoming, met with Ong Siew Gay, the Consul-General of the Singapore Consulate in Shanghai on Mar 4 to discuss strengthening mutual cooperation in business and exchange of talent.

Shen gave information about the economic development and innovations of Pudong district in 2014, especially challenges and opportunities brought by the expansion of the Shanghai (Pilot) Free Trade Zone and the scientific innovation functional area project in Pudong.

He also said that Pudong had long been a land of reform and innovation, and hopes to increase cooperation and communication with the Singaporean government as well as leading Singaporean enterprises to learn from their advanced urban management and economic construction, and call for more people-to-people interaction as well.

Ong pointed out that 2015 marks the 25th anniversary of China and Singapore establishing diplomatic ties, and Singaporeans in Pudong received helping hand from local government over the years. He also stressed that Pudong's future steps and deepening cooperation with Singapore would help increase trade and business ties between China and Singapore.

Statistics shows that a total of 1,397 Singaporean enterprises have branches in Pudong by the end of Jan 2015, with a total value of $5.71 billion. 28 of them chose Pudong as their China or Asia headquarters..

Meanwhile, starting from 2011, with the support of Singaporean Consulate in Shanghai, Pudong district sent 10 staff from the local government and state-owned enterprises to Singapore for further study and training programs in the National University of Singapore and some local companies, including the LFS Medical Device Co and ST Electronics.
