First snowfall brings new lease of life to Sanmenxia

After experiencing gloomy weather for several days, a cold front ushered in the first snow of the season in the city of Sanmenxia, Henan province, on Nov 23.

However, despite the cold, locals couldn't resist venturing outside to enjoy the whiteout in the city. Many could be seen building snowmen, having snow fights and taking pictures against a white backdrop of snow.

According to Liu Kuan,?a doctor at the Pneumology Department of Sanmenxia Central Hospital, the snowfall has improved the air quality in the city and reduced the risks of respiratory diseases.

The snowfall has been welcomed by farmers in the region, as it brings added moisture to soil. The snow benefits the growth of wheat in the countryside areas and will give promise of a fruitful year, according to Zhou Jianfang, senior agronomist from one of the city's agro-technical stations.
