The organizing committee of the 2011 World Horticultural Exposition held its first meeting June 17 in Beijing. Wang Gang, honorary president of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, pointed out that the Expo is a stage for countries across the globe to showcase their horticultural products. It allows them to further technological and cultural exchanges, he said.

Wang also noted the exposition serves as a platform for deepening mutual understanding and fostering friendly global relationships.

The Expo provides a golden opportunity for China to display its profound culture and remarkable modern achievements.

Wang said the committee is dedicated to projecting a positive image of China to the rest of the world.

He also stressed that in order to achieve a successful expo, national organization efforts must take place.

"The committee can learn a lot from the Beijing Olympic Games, the Shanghai Expo and other international events hosted in China. We can show real character in the build-up to the Expo," said Wang.

Efforts will be taken to fully explore local resources in Xi'an, an historical city and world-renowned tourist destination.

The 2011 World Horticultural Exposition is hosted by the Shanxi provincial government, State Forest Administration, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and China Flower Association. It is organized by the Xi'an municipal government.
