DUBLIN, Ohio, June 4 - Sweden's Carl Pettersson held his nerve while the chasing pack faltered carding a final round one-under 71 to claim a two-shot victory at the Memorial tournament on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Swede's second career PGA Tour title comes with huge bonus, earning him an invitation to the U.S. Open at Winged Foot in two weeks' time.

Pettersson started the final round with a two-shot cushion and despite another brief rain delay he could not be distracted posting a winning total of 12-under 276 for a two-shot victory over Americans Brett Wetterich (67) and Zach Johnson (70).

Plagued by weather delays the entire week at the Muirfield Village Golf Club, Pettersson turned in an unflappable performance particularly on a pressure packed final day.

Pettersson's round included three bogeys but on the first two he immediately hit back with a birdie, including a spectacular chip in from the fringe at the 11th after dropping a shot at the 10th.

A wayward tee shot on the final hole added a brief bit of suspense but with a three-shot lead happily settled for the bogey to clinch the win.

Adam Scott, looking to improve on his third place finishes in his last two starts, had a sizzling outward nine that included four birdies to move him within two of the lead.

But the Australian stumbled into the turn with a bogey at the 10th and after answering back with a birdie at 14 dropped another shot at the last when he missed a three-foot par putt that cost him a share of second place.

Instead Scott finished with final round three-under 69 to join Americans Brandt Jobe and Masters champion Phil Mickelson in a tie for fourth at nine-under 279.

Mickelson had a wild final day mixing some spectacular shotmaking with stunning fumbles.

His fourth round began with bogeys on the opening two holes followed by back-to-back birdies at three and four.
