Shenzhen police will impose traffic controls including banning vehicles from entering some roads Saturday for a Universiade road test run from Longgang to Nanshan.

During the 90-minute trial, 13,000 people in 224 buses will be transported 45 kilometers from the Athletes Village in Longgang to the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in Nanshan, the venue for the Universiade opening ceremony.

To shorten the travel time, police will adopt two routes for the trial.

The Longxiang Road section between Huangge Road and the entrance to Shuiguan Expressway will be closed between 4:45 pm and 5: 25 pm and the Shuiguan Expressway will be closed between 4:50 pm and 5:45 pm, Shenzhen traffic police spokesman Xu Wei told a news conference yesterday.

Controls will be imposed on buses using Qingping Expressway, Nigang Road, Beihuan Road, Shahe Road West, Dongbin Road and Keyuan Road South, section by section between 5 pm and 6:10 pm

Other buses will use Nanping Expressway, Fulong Road, Xiangmihu Road, Binhai Boulevard and Shahe Road West to the sports center. Controls will be effective between 5 pm and 6:10 pm

“To reduce the impact on residents, police will deploy 1,700 officers to direct traffic and divert vehicles at intersections,” Xu said.

The routes will cover 10 expressways and trunk roads in five districts.

To keep inconvenience to a minimum, police advised vehicles using Longxiang Road and Shuiguan Expressway to instead use Huangge Road, Jihe Expressway, Meiguan Expressway and Shenhui Road to downtown Shenzhen from 5 pm to 5:45 pm

From 5:05 pm to 5:45 pm, vehicles on Nigang Road and Baihuan Boulevard are advised to use Shennan Road and Sungang Road.
