DPRK launches 3 short-range missiles

The Japanese government have confirmed the Democratic People's Republic of Korea launched three missile on Saturday, saying none of the missiles have landed in Japan's territorial waters, Kyodo news agency reported. An earlier report by Yonhap News Agency stated that the Republic of Korea's defense ministry detected two missiles launched in the morning and another in the afternoon. The ROK defense ministry said the launches might be part of a training exercise or a test.

Magnitude-6.1 quake jolts sea

A magnitude-6.1 earthquake jolted the sea area off the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 1:48 pm on Saturday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The epicenter, with a depth of 40 km, was at about 37.7 degrees north latitude and 141.6 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.

Jewelry stolen at Cannes Film Festival

Chopard jewelry worth $1.4 million intended to adorn movie stars at the Cannes film festival has been stolen, a police source said on Friday, but the company said the value had been exaggerated and the items were not for actresses to use. The items were reportedly taken from a Novotel hotel room on the night of Thursday to Friday. The entire safe was removed from the wall and taken from the room, where someone entered without either forcing the door or using the magnetic key card, police said.
