Graveyard to remove ashes if fees not renewed

A Shenyang citizen bought cemetery space, and paid management fees for the next 20 years to the cemetery owner. He finalized arrangement for his father after more than 50,000 yuan ($8,045) was spent. But an item in the contract prescribing that the graveyard will remove the ashes if management fees are not renewed after 20 years worried him, Beijing Morning Post reported.

The Chinese cities of Shenyang, Qingdao and Jinan have similar rules that public cemetery rights expire after 20 years.

          Charitable shop owner turned anguish

A shop in Central China which offered free steamed breads to environmental sanitation workers has stopped serving the food. Some non-workers who were turned away from getting the free food cursed and quarreled with the shop owner, and some sanitary workers who believed a rumor that public departments paid the shop asked for money instead of steamed breads, Beijing Morning Post reported Friday.

The shop, in Zhengzhou city, capital of Central China's Henan province, began serving free food on Feb 7, after learning that sanitation workers had been working overtime to clear ice. The shop offers about 400 steamed breads daily, and gave away more than 16,000 in one month, at a huge cost to the small shop.

Public hearings on the question will be held over the next four months. The region faces demographic challenges arising from an aging population and a shrinking labor force.
