A court denies a man's request to inherit the frozen embryos of his late daughter-in-law, and nurses at a hospital in Jiangsu province have to report for duty wearing air hostess uniforms.

Nurses dress as air stewardesses

A hospital in Lianshui county, Huaian city of Jiangsu province, has requested that 12 of its nurses should wear air stewardesses uniforms when on duty. The 12 nurses were trained by an airline company before they were hired by the hospital.

"This move was adopted to reduce medical disputes by improving service and medical technology," the hospital said.

Renowned Chinese actor Huang Haibo was detained Friday on suspicion of allegedly patronizing prostitutes in Beijing, according to the official Sina Weibo account of Beijing Times.

The 39-year-old actor, who is often referred to as "China's son-in-law," for portraying humble and lovable characters in hit television shows such as "Let's get married!" and "A beautiful daughter-in-law," was caught at a hotel in Beijing last night, along with a woman at the scene.

Fiery metal objects drop from the sky

Five unidentified metal objects landed in three villages in Qiqihar, the local government said on Friday. The objects, reportedly oval in shape, were in flames when they fell from the sky at about 1 pm, witnesses said. Police cordoned off the sites and launched an investigation. No toxic gas or liquid leakage was found, authorities said, adding that the objects' source remains to be confirmed.

Court rejects request for dead woman's embryos

A man surnamed Shen said he is now “in despair” after a court in Yixing, Jiangsu province, refused his request to inherit four frozen embryos that belonged to his son – who was his only child - and daughter-in-law who were killed in a car accident in March 2013.

His daughter-in-law, surnamed Liu, who was also an only child, planned to have the embryos implanted in Nanjing, capital of the province.

Shen filed the lawsuit against Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital after the management refused to transfer the frozen embryos. Shen and his wife also sued the parents of their daughter-in-law, with the aim of gaining control of the embryos.

Man jumps into river to escape check

A man in Yuyao went missing after he jumped into a river to escape a check by police for drunken drivers, Modern Gold News reported on Friday. Police announced that the man, surnamed Mao, 28, who was said to have just gotten married, found that police had put up a DUI roadblock at about 11:45 pm on May 14 following a traffic accident he was involved in. The man reportedly left his car on the road and jumped in the water. Police searched in the river in the following days, but he was still missing.

New rules on car safety inspections

New cars under private ownership will be exempted from safety inspections for six years after they are registered for use in China. The new policy will be put into practice on a trial basis starting in September, said Huang Ming, vice-minister of public security. Previously, private cars had to pass a safety test every two years, resulting in long lines of cars at inspection stations.
