"Diaoyu Islands" restaurant's sign removed　

The signage of a restaurant in Beijing named after the disputed islands between China and Japan was removed by its property management company because of its "sensitivity", the Global Times reported Monday.

Neighboring a few Japanese restaurants, the "Diaoyu Islands" restaurant was located in the embassy area in downtown Beijing. The owner of the restaurant, surnamed Lu, said foreigners from the embassies often visited his restaurant and he chose the name to show his personal stance on the dispute over the Diaoyu Islands.

The bar counter of the restaurant was designed as a model of China's first aircraft carrier Liaoning and the names of its menu items all include the words "Diaoyu Islands". Lu said the property management threatened to cut off electricity and water if he did not remove the restaurant's signage.

Lu said although he felt reluctant to remove the sign, he understood the pressure the property management company was under.
