Eggs sizzle in Shanghai heat wave

When the temperature hits nearly 40 degrees Celsius, people hunker down in their air-conditioned houses to beat the heat. But some creative Shanghainese took the opportunity to fry some eggs on the scorching ground instead.

An egg was half-cooked within 15 minutes on a stone fence around the Bund, at noon on Aug 4, 2015, cfp.cn reported.

According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, Shanghai has experienced 10 days of continuous high temperatures, hitting a scorching peak yesterday of 39.2 degrees Celsius.

A heat wave will sweep across most of the areas along the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers, regions to the south of the Yangtze River, parts of the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and the southwestern Sichuan Basin, over the next few days, the National Meteorological Center said on Wednesday, issuing a yellow alert for high temperatures.
