Rickshaw Boy holds an important status in the history of Chinese literature. Profound thought, diversified characters and an attractive plot all lay a solid foundation for the opera production. The colloquial dialogue in the production is quite simple and natural, and the beautiful melodies from zarzuela are used extensively. The townscape of old Peking in the Republican Period of China comes to life under the baton of conductor Zhang Guoyong, and top vocalists Tian Haojiang and Sun Xiuwei.
