More arrested in Vietnam's riot case

HANOI - Police in Duc Tho district of Vietnam 's central Ha Tinh province arrested a person on Monday for stealing asset of a China's Taiwanese company on May 14, state-run news agency VNA reported.

According to Duc Tho police, Dang Anh Hung, born in 1991, was arrested for stealing two laptops, one camera, one VCD player, one mini speaker, and two USBs. Hung admitted exploiting of the messy situation in Taiwan-invested Formosa Plastics Group in Vung Ang Economic Zone, some 350 km south of Vietnam's capital Hanoi.

On the same day, police in Cam Xuyen district of Ha Tinh province arrested Trinh Xuan Canh and Nguyen Huu An, both construction workers. The duo stole assets of China 19th Metallurgical Corporation (MCC 19), including 200-meter black coil, welder, 40-meter steam coil, and five copper coils.

Earlier, Duc Tho police seized at house of Le Thai Tuyen (born in 1981) some assets including seven welders, 11 drillers, electricity coil among others worth some 100 million Vietnamese dong (4,740 U.S. dollars).

Under the investigation, police found out that Nguyen Chi Thanh, and Pham Van Chat stole these assets and brought to Tuyen's house for concealing, reported VNA.

In mid-May, a series of riots hit foreign companies in southern and central Vietnam, leaving five Chinese nationals dead, around 20 foreign factories burned down and some 1,100 foreign companies affected.

Last Friday, a total of 12 domestic and international insurance agencies offered in advance 114.7 billion Vietnamese dong (5.43 million U.S. dollars) for 113 violence-hit enterprises.

Among those, 87 are Taiwanese investors, three Singaporean, four China's Hong Kong and three South Korean ones among others, said Vietnam's Ministry of Finance.
