Yingluck sues attorney-general over rice scheme case

BANGKOK - Former Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Tuesday filed a criminal lawsuit against the attorney-general and three other prosecutors for alleged malfeasance in handling a case related to her government's controversial rice-pledging scheme.

Yingluck filed the lawsuit with the Criminal Court, accusing the four of violating three articles of the Criminal Code while dealing with the case in which she is charged with dereliction of duty and abuse of authority.

Yingluck has been alleged of failing to stop corruption in the rice program and incurring up to 20 billion US dollars in operational losses.

In her suit against the attorney-general and public prosecutors, the former premier accused the defendants of rushing to indict her in the Supreme Court without sufficient investigation, making additional accusations which were not included in the original allegations launched by the National Anti-Corruption Commission, and illegally using additional documents as evidence during the court procedure.

The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Office accepted the case against Yingluck in March, and Yingluck denied all charges in the first hearing in May.
