We are children of Communist Party: Son of marshal

Most veterans who participated in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression have passed away. But their wartime stories have been passed through generations and their spirits are etched in every Chinese heart.

General Luo Dongjing, 76 years old, former vice-commissar at the Second Artillery Corps of Chinese People's Liberation Army and son of Luo Ronghuan, the marshal of People's Liberation Army, shared his memory of the war and unveiled the memorable stories.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII and the Chinese people's victory in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression. People should never forget the Chinese people's effort in fighting against the Japanese invaders and their contribution to the victory of the world's anti-fascist war.

Stories of Long March

In 2006, Luo organized an activity to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of Long March. He invited a group of people whose fathers' generation has participated in the Red Army during the war to remember the Long March. The average age of the participants was 65. Zhu De's 79-year-old son-in-law, Liu Zheng, was the oldest.

"Our generation is connected with the Long March by heart, because it was the road that our fathers' generation walked through. Long March is an important part in the history of the Communist Party and the history of PLA," said Luo on why he organized this activity.

In June, Luo took part in an event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's four-time crossing the Chishui River. He said that it was a battle that fully displayed the military talent of Mao Zedong, New China's founding father.

Luo said that Mao took advantage of conflicts within enemies. He directed the Red Army on borderlines of Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces. When the army was to cross the Chishui River for the third time, Mao insisted that they should not attack the local town Daguxinchang (now the Jinsha county). Although nobody supported him at first, his decision proved to be right after the battle. Luo quoted Mao's own words when evaluating the battle, "The victory of the battle of Chishui River is a great achievement in my life".

Ma Zedong has written a poem that mourns for Luo's father Luo Ronghuan, the only marshal who worked with Ma Zedong all the lifetime.
