UK's open-air drama to be performed in Shanghai

One of the UK's leading open-air theatre companies, Heartbreak Productions are honored to have been invited to perform a production of Romeo and Juliet at the Shanghai International Festival.

The Midlands based company are acclaimed for adaptations of Shakespeare that embody a fresh slant whilst ensuring the original wit, charm and intensity of his text is sustained. Known for their "likeable, spirited rendition/good-humoured/consistently clear storytelling" (Mike Davies, Stage Reviews , The Tempest 2016), Heartbreak have "impressed and transfixed audience members of all ages" (The Courier, Macbeth 2014).

Heartbreak Productions are proud to have put the Bard at the heart of their work since 1991 and have produced 16 of his plays culminating in a musical version of "Love's Labour's Lost". The company has consistently delivered excellent shows, exploring the humanity of Shakespeare's drama, combining first class storytelling with clarity of verse speaking. In this 21st century universe, our world needs Shakespeare! The stories are pertinent to today's society with the human frailty and desire to connect being integral to enriching our lives.

What better way is there to create links between the Chinese and British culture than through this wonderful, classic tale of unity? Using Shakespeare's powerful, emotive language and the plays timeless themes as a platform for cultural exchange is something that Heartbreak is extremely passionate about.
