Senior official reiterates opening-up, calls for global cooperation
As a champion of economic globalization, China will open wider and hope other countries will do the same and join hands in building a prosperous future for all, a senior Chinese official said on Friday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Beijing Forum 2019, Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said in his keynote speech that the trend of economic globalization is irresistible although for some time it has faced backlash.
"We must reject acts of unilateralism and protectionism," said Yang, also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.
Yang stressed that China has contributed to the world through opening-up. "In three days' time, the second China International Import Expo will open in Shanghai. It is the world's first national expo designed to increase import. The initiative is unprecedented in the history of international trade."
He also mentioned that the Foreign Investment Law will enter into force on January 1.
