US' private lunar lander struggles during historic moon landing

Odysseus, the privately built US robotic lunar lander, struggled during its historic moon landing last week, the first such US landing in 50 years. The mission, initially expected to run for 10 days, encountered issues with lateral landing, disrupting communications and damaging solar chargers. Houston-based manufacturer Intuitive Machines saw a 3 percent decline in shares on February 23, with losses exceeding one-third of their value this week. Despite NASA's $118 million investment, the mission fell short of collecting expected scientific data. The partial success validates NASA's strategy of relying on startups for instruments.
