Fresh progress made on Chinese-built Hungary-Serbia railway

The completion of the track-laying signifies that the Novi Sad-Subotica section has completed most of its construction tasks and entered comprehensive testing, laying a solid foundation for the goal of opening the line to traffic by the end of the year, said Duan Wei, deputy chief engineer of the Chinese joint venture.

In March, the Belgrade-Novi Sad high-speed railway, another Chinese-built section of the Hungary-Serbia railway, marked two years since its inauguration.

The 80-km section that began operation on March 19, 2022, has carried more than 7 million passengers during its first two years, said Duan.

With a designed top speed of 200 km/h, the trip takes about 30 minutes, compared to 90 minutes previously.

Now, an average of 62 passenger trains are operated on the line each day, with the peak daily passenger volume reaching 15,059, Duan added.
