China reaffirms commitment to elevating ties with Cuba

Beijing remains committed to its friendship with Havana and advancing the building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on Monday.

Rodriguez is currently in China to attend the fourth ministerial meeting of the China—Community of Latin American and Caribbean States Forum, which will convene in Beijing on Tuesday.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 65 years ago, China and Cuba have always trusted and supported each other, Wang said.

They have become sincere and trustworthy comrades among socialist nations, a model of solidarity and mutual assistance among developing countries, and a benchmark for Global South cooperation in safeguarding international fairness and justice, and opposing power politics and bullying, he added.

China will continue to support Cuba in its just struggle to safeguard national sovereignty and dignity and oppose blockade and sanctions, Wang said.

He expressed the belief that with the support of Cuba and other parties, the upcoming meeting will be a complete success.

Rodriguez said that Cuba and China maintain frequent high-level exchanges, and the friendly relations between the two countries have strategic significance.

He expressed sincere gratitude to China for its firm support for Cuba's opposition to the blockade and sanctions, as well as its valuable assistance in helping the country overcome economic difficulties.

Cuba will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China principle and work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during their meeting in Moscow, bringing their ties to a new level, he added.
