FM calls for curbing provocative acts of Japan's far-right forces

China and Russia should further coordinate and cooperate with each other to "resolutely curb the provocative acts of Japan's far-right forces that undermine the region's peace and stability and attempt to remilitarize", Foreign Minister Wang Yi said when meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday.

Wang noted that both China and Russia are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and comprehensive strategic partners of coordination for a new era.

On two occasions commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of WWII this year, the two countries' heads of state held in-depth exchanges — charting a course for future bilateral relations and providing stability and certainty to the world, Wang said.

In particular, the two sides agreed to firmly uphold the outcomes of WWII victory and resolutely oppose any retrogressive acts attempting to whitewash colonial aggression, he noted.

By doing so, the two nations sent a strong message calling for upholding justice and fairness, he added.

Lavrov reaffirmed that Russia abides by the one-China principle and firmly supports China's position on the Taiwan question.

Russia is willing to work with China to jointly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, strengthen cooperation under multilateral frameworks such as the UN and its Security Council, APEC, SCO, and BRICS, he said.

Moscow is also ready to safeguard the respective national interests of the two countries and maintain international security and stability, he added.
